Wholewheat pittas

I love learning something new and then being able to recreate it in my own home. I don’t think I will ever go back to store bought pita bread now that I know how to make my own. Not only that but they are very simple to make. I have modified the recipe from my first batch as I think having both flours will make the pita bread a little less dense. I urge you to give them a go.

  1. Combine water and yeast in a small bowl. Let sit for a few minutes

  4. Add the milk to the yeast mixture and then combine it all with the flour
  5. Start using your hands to combine all the ingredients and add warm water if necessary until you have created a ball of dough
  6. Knead the dough for about 10 mins or until nice and supple
  7. Place the ball of dough back in the bowl and cover it with a  tea towel to let it rise for an hour
  8. Turn the dough onto floured surface and divide into the smaller balls (6 or 15)
  9. Preheat oven to 220 degrees Celsius
  10. Roll each ball with a rolling pin until they are about 2mm thick
  11. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet(s)
  12. Using a pastry brush, brush on water on one side of the pita
  13. Place the tray in the  oven and bake for 8-10 minutes or until circles puff up like pillows and are lightly brown – don’t over bake!
  14. Cut or break pockets open and fill with whatever you’d like – enjoy!

I like to focus on healthy eating as it is an important aspect of my life but it doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy a gooey chocolatey dessert or a huge bowl of creamy ice cream. The recipes below are either from my own creations or adapted to suit my taste!
