We left Ao Nang to venture over to Ko Lanta for a few days and discover another part of Thailand. We took a direct ferry across (500 baht per person) and it was definitely more like being put on a packed bus than a nice leisurely journey across the waters.
However, the South of Ko Lanta, where we stayed, was very quiet and relaxed. So if you have been partying all over the place and need a few days to regather then this is the area for you.
Just be aware that everything on the island is a little more expensive than on the mainland.
WHERE TO STAY IN KANTIANG BAY
This hotel was not as nice as where we had stayed in Ao Nang but if you want something that is not too expensive but still has a lovely view from the restaurant and pool then I would recommend this place.
OTHER HOTELS I WOULD RECOMMEND
For a luxury hotel: Pimalai Resort & Spa
On the beach: Anda Lanta Resort
WHERE TO EAT
We were off the boat and it was lunchtime so we figured it would be the perfect time to get some fresh fish into us. Tripadvisor suggested this place and we can guarantee you that it is definitely all freshly prepared on the spot for you.
Casual setting in a really lovely atmosphere where you can enjoy anything from delicious burgers to your more traditional cuisine. Don’t miss out on the ice cream, it is delicious. I think we ended up going there 2 or 3 times in the space of a few days! Loved it!
I loved this place as I really needed a change from Thai cuisine and this was the perfect, fresh and tasty alternative. I didn’t quite catch the owners name but she is a very lovely girl from Germany who made us feel very welcome in her Health Cafe.
Looking for the perfect romantic setting to watch the sunset? Then this is the place. It is chilled, they have great cocktails and I highly recommend the pizza here.
I have mixed views regarding this place mainly because I did end up in the International Clinic after suffering food poisoning. However, before I got sick I was thoroughly enjoying the cooking class and it was very informative and entertaining. (I also did get reimbursed as I was unable to finish the class).
WHAT TO DO
Hire a scooter/moped as it will save you so much time and money. Just be CAREFUL, we witnessed a few accidents and you really don’t want to be spending your money in the hospitals over there.
4 Island Tour
This is so worth it! We saw some of the most beautiful beaches and clearest waters on this day trip. The tour takes you too Koh Rok, Koh Ngai, Koh Kradan and the Emerald Cave.
Khlong Chak Waterfall
I would not get too excited over the thought of seeing a waterfall because it is far from impressive (unless it has rained solidly for a few days before). Nevertheless, the walk there is really enjoyable and worth doing.
Scuba Diving
We were really excited about going scuba diving over this way as off two of the small islands Hin Muang and Hin Daeng, you can find big manta ray. As we had planned this after my the food poisoning incident, we decided it was better not to go.
One thing you would need to note, is that you need your advanced open water in order to dive as deep as the manta rays.
Massages
You must go to Mini Mouse it may not look like much but the massages we got here were much better than near the beach in Ao Nang. We were both sore the next day!
This is all from our trip to Thailand. I hope that some of the things we have done will inspire your next trip. Safe travels
