Not that long ago, I got an invitation from Naji to stop by and taste his delicious traditional Lebanese dish; the\u00a0Manousheh at Man’Ouchy (which isn’t in Ouchy by the way… I got this wrong)<\/p>\n

What is a\u00a0Manousheh you may ask?<\/h4>\n

The\u00a0manousheh<\/em>\u00a0(plural\u00a0manaeesh<\/em>) is one of the defining staples of Lebanese food. In a country known for its divisions, the universally loved manousheh might be the breakfast food that unites all Lebanese.<\/p>\n

A manousheh is a round flatbread cooked in a big oven or on top of a\u00a0saj<\/em>\u00a0(a domed oven prevalent in the Levant), traditionally topped with\u00a0zaater<\/em>\u00a0(a mix of thyme, olive oil, sesame seeds and sumac) or salty white\u00a0akawi<\/em>\u00a0cheese. Manaeesh can be sliced or folded and, much like pizza, they can be thin or thick.<\/p>\n

Naji was a fabulous host, he is inviting, warm and very passionate about his origins. It was a joy to have him teach me more about za’atar \u00a0I had a great time discovering the kitchen and how he cooks his flatbread but I had even more fun eating my bodyweight in yummy Lebanese food. We literally ate the ENTIRE MENU !! I will give you my top 3 must-have dishes.<\/p>\n

Top 3 Must-Have Dishes<\/h2>\n

1. The trio of mezzes – Hummus, Roasted Aubergine Dip (Classic Baba Ghanoush), Taboul\u00e9<\/h3>\n

The hummus is the perfect consistency ! Creamy with the perfect level of acidity. The baba ghanoush is flavoursome with the right amount of smokiness which I love so much.<\/p>\n

2. Za’atar Manousheh<\/h3>\n

I love this one because it is a traditional staple in Lebanon and the za’atar really adds another dimension to the flatbread. You just can’t go wrong with this and a touch of hummus. I did think about putting the\u00a0kishk Manousheh on this list as I also enjoyed it very much.<\/p>\n

3. Falafels<\/h3>\n

Naji’s falafels are seriously OUT OF THIS WORLD !!<\/strong> He does not sell them from his food truck so the only place you can get them is directly from their restaurant.<\/p>\n
